Having worked for a French company , I gotta say it's so true.. Sometimes very backward and stubborn. Other times cutting edge.. It's the backward and stubborn that truly upset me.
“The French follow no one, and no one follows the French”
Ha! I'm 3/4 Finn and 1/4 French. You don't know stubborn... LOLHaving worked for a French company...It's the backward and stubborn that truly upset me.

Us Finns, stubborn? I don’t know what you’re on aboutMy sister in law is Finnish and yes I’ve seen stubborn. My brother should have dumped her 5-8 years ago.
I know folks get upset when I make statements like this, but here goes – did you have a Structural Engineer confirm that the "web thinning" was acceptable? I've seen the aftermath of too many "little modifications" not be be cautious.Everything else clears too. Of course that was checked while this was on the floor...

Chazz, I believe that is only holding the two beams together, they are not load bearing, and only are there to keep alignment and to keep the two load bearing beams from separating.I know folks get upset when I make statements like this, but here goes – did you have a Structural Engineer confirm that the "web thinning" was acceptable? Loads work in a number of directions, so there are reactions at all connections. However, DK and I have discussed my concern off-line: there is a plate that's not visible and he has things covered.Chazz, I believe that is only holding the two beams together, they are not load bearing, and only are there to keep alignment and to keep the two load bearing beams from separating.
