POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Sitting taking lunch at work right now. I just finished turning down a .375 shaft that is 9” long to .355. So it can get chrome plated. It is a repair we do.

Anyhow most of you know what a PITA this can be. Flex chatter both. As I do not have a follow rest. I pulled my old OD grinding spring out to give that a go.
It worked great. Right at .0005 variance over the length.

This might be something some of you might find useful. Glad I kept it.

Cutting oil is my blood.

As I do not have a follow rest. I pulled my old OD grinding spring out to give that a go.
So how does that work? I see the spring, a copper/brass end, but not quite sure how you orient it. With the work pressing against the side of the spring or against the end of the spring?

And why have I never seen this before… ?

Copper. Anything soft. Yes you load the copper end as close to cutting edge as feasible. Less pressure the smaller diameter. It keeps the vibration at bay. I used a sharp cemented carbide small to no nose radius. Take small cuts .001 to .003 per side. Kiss for the last pass.

Cutting oil is my blood.

And, the spring force helps counteract deflection of the workpiece due to the cutting tool force. Very nice. I've not seen it before and I thank you for the education.

Bushing driver for replacement bushings/ King pin for the Ford TLB front axle, just couldn't get a good OD measurement without removing it to replace them and already ordered and received the wrong one. DOH!

Hopefully they ship the right parts fingers crossed.

Little by little day by day i managed to get the spare room clean out, no need to go to the gym to carry dumbbell or lift weights, just carry spare engines around the garage. There was a lot of garbage and getting rid of it wasn't easy but i managed to dispose of it in the proper way. Next i want to wash and fire the bikes also i need to re do the electrical in that room.

Some things, like the drill and router table, needs to be moved. But this works for now.
