POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Got a 10HP Lincoln motor for the new phase converter from my uncle. The 7.5HP was having trouble starting the air compressor but works great with everything else. I tore it apart with assistance from my brother. I started removing the flaking paint and cleaning up the aluminum. I can’t do much for another week and a half but I’m finally able to get some shop time after hernia surgery. Don’t pick up a three wheeler to move it over a foot…

This is the finish with some rough steel wool. I’ll probably leave it like this. I will have the inside pressure washed and replace the bearing before I swap out the phase converters.

careful with the pressure washer. it can cut through the insulation (usually just dipped in shellac) on the windings. If you have to, use dawn and water, from a hose. Avoid high pressure, steam, and solvents.

I’ve got is covered in degreaser, the gunk just falls off. I’ll probably just use the hose now.
