POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Cut a couple of aluminum pieces to reinforce the ends of the way covers on my mill. Now, they won’t bend so easily.

As I was cleaning out the T slots on the table, I found the screw I dropped while changing out an insert on my 2” indexable endmill. I thought for sure that it had fallen into the pile of chips on the floor, never to be seen again. It’s crazy how little pieces like that show up when you stop looking for them.

Last weekend I serviced a Trav A Dial. Today I made the bracket and mounted it up.

So here it is mounted to the carriage. Notice the nice set of holes to mount the mounting plate. All fine and good. That is until I go to mount it. Funny thing that darned thing is only 90 deg off. Lightening holes 2-5. That was all of them.

Cutting oil is my blood.

Nice result. However, I don’t think you understand the process: as hobbyists, we frequently repurpose stock from a previous project that didn’t pan out do it is expected that there may be “extra” holes/features that aren’t relevant to the current project.

what's wrong with the convertible? seems like a lot of project cars, and no progress. Time to get the whale tail going.

always. I just found a spring and nylon piece that was to key a detent on my hose nozzle sprayer. You know with the multi setting wheel. Looked for it, and didn't find it, until a month later when I felt it under foot.

Oh!
Future Features.

1. Need to replace transmission. I have had the replacement tranny for the last 4 years. Waiting to make the time to do the job. Since this is an AWD car, it is more involved to drop the transmission…
2. Leaking steering rack that I repaired and made a mistake installing a seal backwards. I have a new seal kit to redo it.
3. Needs a new paint job. This I will need to pay someone to do it…

I have all the parts for the mechanical repairs.

The way I parked them is the order I will work them. VW Bug first… then 911 (964) cabriolet, then 912, and then the 911 SC

So apparently when they said it had a 12" swing over the bed and 7" over the cross slide they thought the 12" sounded good but we would surely color in the lines and accept the 7"?

Okay, 8" S/80 304 pipe 12 inches long.... that might be a bit big, wife says I might be pushing it a bit.... I'll cut it into 3 shouter pieces, yeah that's the ticket but this I'll need 3" of reach past my current tool reach..... Ahhh I got it, I'll build an extension for the tool post...

Yeah, that'll do the trick, now to carve on that piece of pipe....:)

For those wondering I am fabricating the vanes for the pump impeller, I have the inside as shiny as the outside and it is now 1.78 thick, I will part off 2.75" of this 4" Lg piece then cut it into the individual vanes.

After taking care of a bunch of little projects, including running fiber and earth ground for the new fiber internet install last week, finally a little progress on the bridge crane again. (Internet company fiber ends in one building, my fiber runs 50meters to another building, where the ONT device sits in the 'Network Closet'. Because there's phone, it needs earth ground, etc. )

Crane project started with cleaning the shop around it, then stripping the moving parts, drive shafts, and other hardware. Pulled the bolts between the supports and the rails, and separate one rail. It's not a lot of progress, but better than none!

Next step will be to mark all the mating surfaces, then drop the supports off the other beam. Once that's done I can wire wheel it and start painting it. Marking the mating parts will be important, so it goes together the same way it was built. Really don't want to mess that up!
