POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

I do get support to a point , but I have the need to go vertical which I started a while back . Hopefully I'll see the windows in the garage again one day . :p

The garage in my new house has no windows and no side door... I gave up on seeing those in my current house so why even bother in the next house :D

Finally got access to the side (back in my case) personnel door in my garage after at least 5 years. Depending on your location, a separate non-car door is required by Code. In our area the garage floor also needs to be at least 6” below the adjacent living space floor so gasoline can’t run into the house.

I've been watching this show a long time... Not to be a debbie downer, but highly unlikely. If you ever clean that garage / house/ basement out then I must be in an alternate universe.
If you ever saw what I started with and what is left , you'll see I'm making progress . I still have 20 times what I would ever use . My mechanics tools take up more room than the machinist tools . I'm trying to push these now because I'm in need of space and either the 4 Vidmars or the 4 HF boxes have to go . Still have 1000s of end mills , HSS cutters , insert tools , drills , reamers etc to go . Takes time to sort thru all of this . I'm currently working on a full milling package for someone on here . Things always are moving out . :)

For instance . $7200 left in the last 2 months . You would never know it . If people would ever ask what they were in need of , life would be easy instead of constantly taking pics of everything . I'm on different sites now also and heading to the bay with different stuff . Just like most everyone on here , we make impulse purchases for whatever reason . I buy because there was work which required special tools . And I have them if ever needed in the future , but I'm not planning on it .

just learned a new use for borax.. I use it after a treatment of oxalic acid when bleaching wood. it stops the process. also use it for other cleaning tasks. 20 Mule Team Borax... at your supermarket... many uses.
I’ll give you another. I used to be a taxidermist. We use borax on the inside of the animal skin, birds and mammals. It aids in drying stops spoilage and most importantly, it “sets” the hair. That means that the hair won’t fall out of it over time. Obviously the hide must be fresh to begin with, it can’t reverse what has started.

Mix boric acid (not borax) 50/50 by volume, with grape jelly. Mix really well.
Ants love the stuff. I had ants eating it like kittens nursing from mama. about 50 of them lined up side by side.
Kills the queen. Have to change it every day til they're gone because the jelly gets a skin on it.
Keep doing it for a week after you see the last ant.

I'm working on cleaning up my California shop, then have to go to Michigan later this month. Clearing out everything there, details soon....

Spent some time today on the lathe cutting down some 1045 rod to make some lathe spiders, one on the right is finished and is being shipped off. I use to drill out the center with a 1" MT drill, but was a slow process and made a lot of chips. I now core the steel from both ends with a 1 9/16" annular carbide drill to 2" deep, and then pop out a nice steel slug that I can use for other projects. I will probably use it to make the knurled locking nuts for the spider bolts. I do the spider internal final sizing with a 1" carbide boring bar, which holds tolerance end to end and gives a nice finish. Also finishing up on a PM-1340GT VFD control system, bench testing the control wires.

I've been watching . Sometimes it's hard for me to hold back on your stuff , believe me ! :big grin: At this point I need a RPC to get the machines running to show that they do run . Customers as myself won't purchase a machine if you can't see it run . If they do , it's for 1/2 of what the machine is worth so I'll spend the $$$$ on the RPC . As far as drill chucks and the other stuff , I walk by it these days as I can store it easily . I'm tackling bigger fish for space ! :encourage:

Today i had a small project to make an adapter for a fuel shut off valve, for a lamborghini garden rotary tiller. The italians, used M10x1.0 thread, and no one has that small valve. Bought a standard valve and made a adapter on my lathe. I used brass hex, turn down one side to M16x1,25 other side to M10x1.0 threaded them used some fuel resistant teflon filled it and is holding, i also install the klingerit gaskets in betwen, teflon is more to lock it in place, that engine has lots of vibration.
