POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

I miss the days when i could go to a parts place and walk out with all the parts i need. I had to order stuff like timing belt, oil seals, engine mounts staff that should be on a shelf. I did take off the timing belt cover just to check the number on the old timing belt but they were gone so i had to count the teeth also noticed the injection pump is leaking, so i'll have to swap it from the other engine, and instead of just to drop it in i'll have to strip it down reseal it and then service it.

I bought an old Stanley 4” Machinist level a few weeks ago. The vial was broken. I did some searching on the bay. I found a surveyor vial for $6 I gave that a go. It did not state the accuracy l. Only it is to sensitive for regular levels.

Anyhow installed it and got it dialed in. Turns out to be .0015”/ ft. It took some to get it calibrated.

Oh also made a small Aluminum box for it.

Cutting oil is my blood.

Today after work i push the white elephant no:2 in the big garage, i have to take the fuel pump off the old engine. Then i focused on the "new" engine had to take it down to a bear long block. All the parts got clean, the intake manifold was very clogged, i use wire brush on a drill then i used my parts washer and nylon brushes to get it spotless. The new belts and seals are still not here so i stopped on it and focused on my garden, the strawberries got moved to the tires, i also cut the lip of the tires. Till the ground made channels and planted 6 rows of tomatoes, 2 rows of pipers and two rows of cucumbers. That was the hard work, i also welded metal bars to hold them up. In few days i'll get them tide up with rope.

Today was a long day, first at work then in the garage. I managed to assemble the "new" engine hard to disassemble the turbocharger to clean the variable vanes. I installed new water pump the fuel pump from the other engine, time the engine with a new belt, installed new crank and cam seals. Clean all the parts i could fit in my parts washer, for the engine block i use spray bottle with gasoline and a brush, it clean up well. Then i got my homemade engine crane pulled the block and gearbox out, mounted the fresh engine and installed it its a very tight fit. With the engine mounted i reassembled everything, fill the cooling system, bleed the fuel system and it fired up. I run it on the old oil that it had and tomorrow i'll change it in the small garage over the inspection pit. One day engine change isn't easy but i can still do it.

I think his brother would be a great resource for a major car maker... as a reliability tester! Though to be honest, by the time he's finished they'll probably end up making a main battle tank instead :D
