POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Remember our current governor running on a "platform" for her first term, "Fix the *amn roads"? I don't recall hearing too many ads about the roads during her 2nd term campaign. Of course, I don't have any better ideas; Michigan's thaw/freeze weather isn't going to change even with global warming.
The potholes are wicked horrible on my daily drive right now. My car tends to hold up better than the other members of my family. Some of that is being able to successfully dodge the holes, which varies with the driver.

They've been getting worse the last few years. A friend smacked one with her van the other year. Blew two tires, wrecked two rims, and did about $2000 in suspension damage. Her insurance actually covered the damage.

So, yeah, I think the branick will continue to get used. Don't see that changing anytime soon!

I always said that I would never buy low profile tires/rims, and then I went and bought a Jetta Sportwagen. I've ruined two tires on potholes last year, Same wheel too, and at $200 a pop. Last time I buy premium tires I guess. The impact to the car was so bad I was sure I'd suffered structural damage too, but luckily I was spared that. The roads in PA are really bad.

I had my wife's accura out to go to the store at night. When we met she had the car, low profile tires as well. blew 2 with huge bubbles on craters that could have broken my teeth. Very expensive... I will not do low profile again for the roads. I always keep my tires inflated above normal as I don't like when the tire rolls when cornering. I would rather it be solid.. so to ruin them like that it proved to me that they are not meant for anything but well paved roads.. and who has that.

And I thought Northern Ontario was the only one with pot holes. At least I'm not alone.

When I moved to the US with my EU sports car, I had to raise the ride height 2" on all corners, and dial my shocks back from 60% firm to only 30% firm. The reason I made the changes was to keep from breaking my teeth. What was passable over there on B-roads and streets was impossible to manage here in the land of milk and honey. No wonder cars with 30" or smaller tires from the factory are considered economy cars here.

Got another little job done - turning down a 1-1/2" straight shank arbor to 1" for my Jacobs 20N chuck. Not sure I'll ever use it much, but at least I'll more be able to use it! Made lots of lovely blue spirals with my CCMT tool :)IMG20230510195500.jpgIMG20230510200648.jpgIMG20230510202149.jpgIMG20230510202324.jpgafter letting it cool down overnight, I held it between centers and did a final clean up passIMG20230511123600.jpg
Looks pretty silly, but it'll be useful for large reamers at leastIMG20230511124503.jpg

That's a purdy FIMS toolpost you got there, Mr. Crook. What's the story on the arbor holder, it doesn't look like the boring bar holder or MT3 holder from FIMS. No height adjusting screw, either. And it fits. Where did you find it?

Thanks, I like it allot. It didn't come with any tool holders at all, so I made all of mine. That one is a 1" boring bar holder. It does have a height adjustment screw, same as the other holders in the pics, but you can't see it behind the tool post.

I'm almost scared to drive the mustang! Everything else is 4WD/AWD and has appropriate tires. Unfortunately even those are no match for this years potholes!

Today I didn't make anything in my shop (garage) but I did do something!!
I've had these parts bins in the way for a long time and finally got around to organizing them.
There's six cabinets. I have 12 cabinets but I'm sending the other six off to auction. I don't need that many drawers and don't have that much space.
