POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Today I didn't make anything in my shop (garage) but I did do something!!
I've had these parts bins in the way for a long time and finally got around to organizing them.
There's six cabinets. I have 12 cabinets but I'm sending the other six off to auction. I don't need that many drawers and don't have that much space.

Will you ship? :p

Another little job done - moving my tail stock read out behind the tail stock. I originally put it in front, but the bracket interfered with the tool post at times.

Mostly just fabricobbling, but a fun little project

And here's one of the other ones, clearly learning from PepperIMG20230514171546.jpgIMG20230514171605.jpg

I also discovered the hard way that a piece of my mystery metal was probably not the best choice for a spindle nose copyIMG20230514142226.jpgIMG20230514142223.jpgIMG20230514142213.jpg

Ah well, I didn't like that insert anyway :)

Took some more dog pics insteadIMG20230514132952.jpgIMG20230514132958.jpgIMG20230514133018.jpg

And finallyIMG20230514132907.jpg

If i did not have enough work, my brother called he found an engine for white elephant no: 2. This means i have to clean the big garage, and get the 406 out of there fully disassembled. That took couple of hours, and unloading and getting the "new" engine in my steep driveway and in the garage was a struggle. Thankfully i miss the last part because i was at my second job. Tomorrow i plan to buy belts, water pump is obviously leaking, the turbo charger is bad but they supply a good one, so i'll have a full evening just to get the engine ready for installation also the intake looks to be full of gunk. I haven't done one day engine replacement in a few years so this may be the one.

Not sure this qualifies as a “make” but I started mocking up the Z axis scale on the Clausing.
This may be the first time in recorded history that the supplied bracketry actually works without modification.

Used 1-2-3 blocks to space the scale down 1” from the underside of the ways.
The carriage clears the scale by .25” and the supplied bracket fits the read head and extends high enough to bolt to the back of the carriage.

Go buy a lottery ticket or something like that! I've always had to toss those brackets, they never seemed to line up at all. Four scales, four unused and useless brackets.
