POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Added a sprayer tank to my JD lawn tractor to spray anytime now for dandelions. With a 15 gallon capacity I don't have to stop to refill any more. It has two ground nozzles and a wand for hard to reach areas controlled via a 3 way valve. I've had that valve for over 30 years finally found a use for it.

Unintended bike repair today. The rear wheel skewer broke 5 miles into my ride yesterday and I managed to get another 16 or so miles before my zip tie fix broke. In the process part of one of the axle caps disappeared.

Pretty simple job, but it came out nice. Made from stainless with the notches hand filed while it was still in the lathe.IMG20230509205451.jpgIMG20230509205740.jpgIMG20230509205859.jpg

The wheel is still a bit tight, I think that axle cap got a bit dished - you can see it got battered. I'll fix that tomorrow!

Time to invest in a yellow can
Yep, except the yellow colored fuel goes in the red can. And the red colored (off road) fuel goes in the yellow can! Thus the following...

Had a similar brain fart once, even with the correct cans. Red fuel goes into green tractor... ...red fuel, red fuel, red fuel, red can... duh!

Poured about a half to 3/4 gallon into the old green tractor. Crap! Topped it off with correct fuel (6+ gallons total), and let 'er fly. Was going to burn through that tank fully that day anyway. Guessing those old mechanical fuel pump tractors will eat just about any fuel as long as it lights...

I would think a lot of diesels would tolerate a god bit of gas mixed in? Not like when my brother in law put diesel in the mower! Yes it was in a yellow can that said diesel on it!

So, I guess this means it's finally lawn mowing season. The last of the white stuff finally melted yesterday. A little earlier than some years, but not nearly early enough!

Of course, lawn mowing season means fix the pothole damage season. I used up my full allotment of 4-letter words during this job. Even invented a few new ones. I'm starting to feel like our North Macedonian friend!

I'll admit that Branick 7600 compressor was a splurge the other year. But at this point it's not only paid for itself, it's making money. Of course, the price when I bought it was half of what they list for now!

Remember our current governor running on a "platform" for her first term, "Fix the *amn roads"? I don't recall hearing too many ads about the roads during her 2nd term campaign. Of course, I don't have any better ideas; Michigan's thaw/freeze weather isn't going to change even with global warming.

About the wrong fluid in a diesel engine: Some how the help managed to put two gallons of antifreeze in the diesel tank on a John Deere 4455. It ran about 15 feet. Half a day later after bleeding it all out I was lucky and no permanent damage. Some diesels will blow the head right off if run on gas.

What do you use for weed and feed ?
I don't use a weed and feed product, For dandelion's I spray with a herbicide. For feed I use Jacks 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer. I mix up a 5 gallon pail. I have an in ground sprinkler system so I connected a dosimeter to the system and inject the Jacks fertilizer into the stream. No more pushing a fertilizer spreader around the yard. I fertilize 2-3 times a season.
