POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Got the 1 micron cross slide scale mounted.
Tomorrow I should have the read head mounted.
Then there’s a cover to be made.
Break out the brake!

My Dad, Jack & I assembled 2 welding screens. At that point, Jack resumed his beveling task while I got all set up to work with 7018 for the next 6 months or so (sadly only on Sundays).

Here is Jack taking a break from the milling machine to dust off his 7018 skills:

I had to do some experimentation to get the work station right. I definitely needed to add a work light. In order to save time, I stopped removing the mill scale off of the mild steel sheet (but I still wipe with acetone). I do most of my slag chipping & wire brushing outside (my chance to get some fresh air). The next issue to address would be air quality. I will probably use the outside weld test fixture next Sunday just for the air quality issue.

Couldn't get the diesel to rev up yesterday and lots of smoke. Hum After an hour or more of pulling filters bleeding, pulling an injector that wasn't firing, I realized I'd topped the tank up with gas, DUHHHHH

Wish I could blame it on old age but I've done it in the past too. lol
This time I didn't even sniff the jug, (I've dumped old gas that didn't smell like gas anymore in the a diesel tank), it was up at the saw mill, there's nothing up there that uses gas, no idea why it was there. lol

I had to get religious about can color when my wife poured gasoline into our then-new Kubota diesel tractor. “Yellow can for the orange tractor” became the mantra after that.
