POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

@silverhawk

Very nice tool organization there.

What is the purpose of the black tool with the handlebar grip? I don't recognize that tool.
Since he mentioned “trailer”, I’m guessing it‘s the tool to pop the hitch equalizer bar(s) on/off their mount…

With everyone posting about tool storage, here's my take. After getting the new laser engraver, the thoughts went from the drafting tool kit custom box cut out of wood, to a trailer tool "toolbox". I wanted to keep some of the basic, required tools for the trailer together, and I ended up cutting some sheets of 1/32" ABS (in a well ventilated area - I was careful), and using the same to mark some 1/4" sheets for the ends.

Thumb-screwed together to make the tools easily accessible, and I feel just a little more organized (and won't have to dig for some of these). Sure, they are harbor freight specials, but that is perfectly fine for me and what they will be used for.
You say it is thumb-screwed together, I must be missing it. It looks like a dozen or more little screws attaching it together. Are you going to attach it to the side of the trailer or what's your plan?

As others have said, it's for the stabilizer bars. My hitch is a Fastway E2, so I have a different bar to lock it in place (sadly, a custom bar in place of the regular old "pipes" always equates to more expense). You can bypass the bar by engaging the hitch and extending the jack as far as you can, then lift, but for Those of- the- road areas, I just need to have it with me.

The opposite side has rubber to prevent it from sliding all over. The screws are used to keep it together, plastic spacers between each layer. Then, with three longer-than-normal screws sticking up, I just put thumb nuts on those too lock the top layer (1/4" thick) on to hold it all together.

Another day another broken car. The white elephant No:1 started to be hard to get it in gear, by the time i got it home i lost the entire clutch. from the sound i know it's something with the release bearing and this having a VW engine and box is different from the typical clutch setup. The release bearing is near the drivers tire and there is a long rod that pushes on a plate against the pressure plate. I bought a new rod and release bearing, install it and still is not working right, i even changed the fork arm. There must be something wrong in the pressure plate, tomorrow i'll have to drop the entire gearbox to diagnose it further. This car has only 2-30000 km on a complete clutch set installed by me less then a year ago.

More work in the Fungus, which has been taking up most of my time recently. One big item on the list was a new headliner. The last one was falling down and thoroughly impregnated with fungus (hence the name) after the driver's side window was left open for a good while (blame my idiot brother on law for that).

Got a relatively decent headliner, door seals and sunshades from a donor car at the local pick'n'pull for $81

It came from a higher trim level so had an extra hole for rear AC controls. Bought an extra dome light and made an adapter

Then converted all the internal lights into LED with little 1W 12V drivers. Just the right amount of light.

Ran the new reversing camera from the lift gate to the drivers side A pillar, then started on putting the new headliner in. What a pain in the posterior. I discovered after pushing it in that there are two different wheel bases of 1999-2007, short which I have and guess which the donor headliner came from?

So after much swearing and supporting the headliner with my head, it's finally in. Cut it a bit short (measure once cut twice?) which is a bit irritating, but it's in!

Got a few other bits'n'pieces to do, but I'm pleased as punch. It also has a load of insulation up there so it should be great in the Texan sun

Today was a long day, first at work then i had to remove the gearbox not only once but twice. First time i found the plate that the push rod pushes against had a hole in it, bought a new one put it together and still the clutch won't disengage. Take it apart again now i removed the pressure plate from the crankshaft. Yes this clutch setup is all backwards and found small pieces from the plate with the hole has gotten struck behind the fingers, took them out and assemble it again. And it works now, lifting that gearbox up and down by myself made me want a transmission jack and i'll look in to buying or making one. This car seems to have serious problem once a year it may also need to get sold.

Is this the car that your infamous brother drives?
If so, could that be the cause? ;)

Added a new stereo to the Fungus, nothing fancy but it now has a reversing camera and other fancy stuff. Just got some rear suspension bushings to replace and a final drain'n'fill on the transmission and it should be pretty much doneIMG20230315152135.jpgIMG20230315163852.jpg
Looking forward to getting back to some machining!

Very cool. You made me laugh saying nothing fancy and then saying it has a reversing camera and other fancy stuff.
