At previous job they had a shop made roller for pipe mounted on the 1875 pond lathe. I made several spiral staircase hand rails with it over the years. Also used the lathe for threading pipe with a Ridgid threading die.

In 15 years of working there, I actually did use it one time to turn some metal. Was machining out a Magnesium die tube that was set up, or something to that extent for a local foundry/factory.

Tonight I had a call from another fab shop in town I have moonlighted at previously. They wanted to know if I could roll some 1/2” square tube rings with my lathe. They had a fixture pipe setup already and burned up their pipe threader motor. So I came to the rescue.

I did wish my lathe would turn slower than 36 RPM, but I got them done. They will cut apart and straighten up and weld back together for a Railing.
