No mention has been made in either thread, but you'll want to temper the spring after winding - 450* or so in an oven for a while (I'd probably go 60 minutes on a spring with 1/8" wire). You may already know that - it doesn't seem that you came into this blind.

we love pics .

We waiting until it was really cold out, opened the garage door and started work. Thought you would like to see the result. Everything worked pretty well except we did not get video of the spring unwinding at the very end - it was exciting for 2 seconds!!! video too large to attach, so just the picture. We used 1 inch pipe and the unwound OD was just under 2"

I don't want to sound like a sissy, but:

The heaviest wire I've wound was around .020".
