My 70 Nova project (Formerly looking at this mustang)

My old 331 SBC ran 117 MPH, that calculates out to 403 hp in the quarter@ 3270 lbs
Your combination will be strong....

Back in the day 1 hp per cubic inch was a fire breather. You were big stuff back then with that kind of power.

I do think this engine will have enough umph to get out of it's own way.

Have been doing some more reading on the L92. There was a test and they put dyno headers on it, and did a mild tune. They got 445hp out of it on pump gas. No cam change.

It sounds like you've made a good decision. I'm not sure if you will need to put in larger valve springs with the new cam, but something you should look into. I believe everything else will be sufficient. I look forward to your updates on this build because I intend to put an LS into my Camaro.

31 spline axles, nodular, or after market center?

31 splines, stock 3.50 pumpkin with new Yukon trac lock,

Well now my power is out. Big wind storm. When my phone dies I'm done.

For what is called a stage 2 cam stock valve springs will work is what the article said. For now i just want to be able to drive it. I have a trailblazer SS with a 6.0 in it and it will scare the crap out of you. I can imagine the nova weighing 2k less with the same power.

Here we don't have many LS engine but even i know about the cylinder deactivation on those 6,2L engines, make sure you have it deactivated in the ECU and if you are doing the camshaft, change the valley cover and remove it completely.

You had me worried about DOD. Thankfully my engine doesn't have that.

First pic is my engine, second pic is a DOD.

I've been watching youtube vids of the harness mods and everybody says it's easy. Doesn't look easy to me. I think I'm going to send it off to be done, and the vats, catalytic converters, and ac disabled. I found a guy that will do it for $250, or $350 extending the computer connection so I can put the computer in the passenger compartment. I'd rather have it inside.

You've got lucky, newer engines with the DOD have real issue with the lifters. Modifying engine wire loom, is easy if you follow the wiring diagram, i've done it many times and i've found if i buy new pins it's a lot cleaner and easier, 250 isn't too bad if he gets rid of the transponer Unlocks the ECU and all the other things to make it ready to go in, you may want to lay things out and give him reference how long wires need to be, keeping the ecu inside is not needed if you are running inner fenders it's just one more big hole to drill and fill.

Yeah, I looked around a lot to find the right engine. I looked on ebay and most on there sell just a long block, for $2300 to $3500. This one was 25 miles away. Found it on facebook marketplace. I'm finding more and more stuff there as opposed to craigslst.

I had thought about a LQ4 for less money, but if I decided to get more power out of it that would end up costing me more than just buying an engine with more power stock. With everything that came with it this is truly a bolt it. A few little things to deal with, but no big deal.

I'm trying to figure out a fuel system now. I've seen the low buck guys on youtube with a stock tank and a walbro 255 pump and a corvette fuel pressure regulator. I'm not sure with this setup I'd get enough fuel to it. They do make a fuel injection tank but it's a lot more money.

I wish you were local to me, I'd pay you to do my harness. He will unlock the ecu for that price. I'm not sure if I want to try it and make a mistake, then pay more to have it fixed. Wiring is my kryptonite. I can wire my entire shop, but things like the harness frustrate me to no end.

Good choice, there no replacement for displacement. Here anything bigger than 1,5 litre engine is considered big, i'm pretty sure 80% of people haven't even seen a V8, but i'm that 1% that works on them. In my experience if you not planning to go turbo, blown or nitrous, Walbro 255 will be just fine but buy a original walbro pump there are many copies an fakes. And buy fuel hard lines aluminium that are made for high pressure, the aluminium is a good heat sink and helps a lot with fuel boiling in the summer, i'll take a picture to show you how peugeot installed 2 fuel coolers under the floor on my 607. Vapor locking is a real problem with today's fuels.

A base-model Walbro 255 will starve your engine at peak, but there are some hot versions of that pump around (I prefer Gram's) that will make your expected 403 hp power level. It sounds like you want an easy swap, and I respect that. I would seriously consider some aftermarket headers as prudent practice, and a cam to take advantage of improved breathing. I'm sure you have the transmission covered- what have you picked out?
