My 70 Nova project (Formerly looking at this mustang)

I've been able to do a little more work. Decided to put the trac loc into the 9" pumpkin.

Fought it for a few hours and then gave up. Came out the next day and saw that the posi case was hitting the pinion rear bearing support. Major interference. So I called Yukon and they told me to grind it for clearance. A lot of grinding. They assure me that was normal.

So went slow and got past the carrier rubbing, then locked up when I adjusted it over to get my backlash. I thought it was because the gears were too far out and were binding. Turns out that the carrier flange is also thicker and I had to do some more grinding on the case by the fill plug. I could just barely see a witness mark there where the ring gear bolts were hitting. So more grinding. Went a little at a time and it now finally clears.

What a pain.

Who's center?

Yeah, aftermarket parts are like that, they need to be clarence or other fitment issues, i'm glad you had the patience to finish the job, did you check the wear pattern?

It was from Yukon. Ordered from Amazon for free shipping. Cheaper than ordering it from Yukon directly.

Haven't checked the pattern. Just set the backlash.

I would advise get some yellow paste or some grease and check it, it's a hassle if you install it and it makes noise, couple of years back i rebuild a back axle for a neighbor's Sprinter Van, he is transporting passenger all over europe and about a week ago i get a call from my neighbor he took the van for a service in the main dealer and it had an oil seal leak on the rear end. The technicians there did not believe him that he had more than 600 000 km driven on it, because it was like new no wear at all. I could hear the technicians in the background on the phone call, "Ask him what kind of silicone he used, it was a nightmare to get the cover off".

Whos center section housing, it is a nodular case right? I've had 3 Moser nodular cases, and never had any interference there with several brands of posi units.

It's just a standard ford center section. Not nodular. I don't even remember where I got it.

I'll see if I can get a pattern with some grease a little later.

We just got back from a drive and I picked this up for $25..

Hopefully I can make it work.

Hydroboost and a master cylinder, i'm sure a simple bracket, like the silver one on it will be the easiest machining project you've ever done, try to mount the fluid reservoir level so you don't need to modify it. Otherwise you are set.

You are aware that the standard center is weak in the pinion bearing area righ, and is prone to spitting it out?

You have a pack of pinion depth shims?
