My 70 Nova project (Formerly looking at this mustang)

Well this picture is sort of announcement for me. I've been working from home after my stroke and it takes me a full 7 days a little at a time to get 30 hours in. I get tired very quickly.

I found out that I'd been paying for long term disability insurance and since I paid for it with pre tax dollars its not taxable. I get 70% of my wages which is about 5% less than my taxed take home pay.

In my policy it states if I cant go back to work at my full previous capacity im eligible for the LTD benefits.

For me it was a no brainer. Get up at 4 am, drive 108 miles a days to work and back, work 10 hour days, or take a 5% pay cut and do what I want.

So without further explanation, read the shirt.

Says it all for me.

Bet THAT was a tough choice .

Yeah, that's a no-brainer. Congratulations on retirement and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Yup tough decision alright. Took micro seconds to make the decision ;)

I've talked to my doctor and she says ill have minimal improvement. But I've came this far.

I'm not ready to give up and have my life evolve around Netflix.

Even though I can't work long hours I was able to put the finishing touches today on a new service for the 6 speed transmissions i work on. My biggest customer is sending me two parts to work on as soon as I told him about it.

Now I need to get it on ebay and add it to my website.

I'll find a way to keep busy.

@alloy,

Congratulations!
You can now work for yourself:
  • work when you feel like it,
  • only take jobs that offer you what you want

You have the right attitude, keep at it but at your own pace and do NOT become a netflix zombie.
I wish you all the best.

Where are you in social insecurity status? There are disability benefits there too, but the specialists(neurologist, etc) need to sign off on the disability. Stay strong :encourage:

I've not checked SS. I know they won't give me as much as my private insurance will. And the private ins would go down if I got SSDI.

I know getting SSDI is a long drawn out process, whereas my private ins policy was approved the same day they got the paperwork. A slam dunk I guess.

I paid for it, might as well use it.

What is the duration of the insurance, I thought there was a year, but I'm not sure.
