What does H mean on this diagram?
I’m trying to help a friend of mine who picked up an inexpensive mini lathe I believe it’s a 7 x 16. He’s just trying to put the gears on it for turning.

I’m waiting on a response from him for a little more information on the laid. He said he looked up the model number and several different name brands popped up.

A few manuals he found do not describe much of anything about the gears

The H stands for a bushing/spacer/unused gear. It is not a gear, just something to keep the gear in place.
The gear on this shaft is only used to connect the other gears. It does not influence the gearing.
If you don't have a bushing/spacer, use a small gear. As long it does not contact any of the gears, it is OK.
