Interestingly, this ancient, pre-Last Word, Starrett No. 64 Test Indicator also reverses:

In 1968, that Starrett #64 is what I used. Reads in 1/1000" graduations with 30/1000" range. I found some on eBay and bought them for old times sake. They still work fine and are sometimes handy.

that's not a No 64.. it says it's a 564.

Hi, I found the fastener that holds the stylus in place, thank the lord. put it back together and it still sticks in one direction.
I have a good indicator to test with just wanted to make the Starett work

You are correct: the photo is clearer than my 10x loupe!!

However, the catalog cut does say the 15-0-15 set is a 64.

Mold maker?

Not entirely. I don't do tool and die type of work on the regular. This is a reverse osmosis cell. Made from billet 316 stainless. We outsourced it, came back with the gasket surface out of flat. Had to plain off the critical surfaces. Here I was using both types of teat indecator to level the secondary surfaces, to then flaten the primary. Don't have a VMC in my department. Manual machines worked in the end. Holds back 1200psi well.
