I have a part I sell for $225 on ebay. I recently sold one and ebay charged the guy $86.43 for shipping. Thankfully the guy contacted me before cancelling the sale and asked me about shipping, I assured him I would give him a refund. My shipping cost if I bought an ebay label ( I didn't) is $43.61. (See screen shot)

I knew ebay was adding to the cost of shipping to pad their profits but I didn't realize how bad it actually was.

I highly encouraged the customer to pitch a b*tch to ebay and make it loud and tell them I'm the one that told him about it. Ebay is driving my sales away by overcharging people on shipping. I told them I can take the heat from it, I've been on ebay for 24 years now.

Ok, I'm better now.................well actually I'm still p*ssed off about it.

Edit: I called ebay about this and they said they would fix it. BS.

FMS!!! That is ludicrous!

Whatever they are on, they need to get off it because the are effing the sellers, the buyers and the platform reputation big time.

You do have a right to be ******, EBAY should make a minor service charge of 2-3 dollars for the software they provide for that. Not more than you pay.

Well for some background on ebay. I was one of the very first sellers on ebay. When they first started they didn't take a cut on shipping charges. So you would see something listed for $10 and a $100 shipping fee. Ebay figured that out out pretty quickly and tacked on the same percentage they charge in selling fees for shipping. Basically a few ruined it for everyone. I agree with ebay's decision to do that. They had no choice if they wanted to survive as a business.

But what they are doing now is a crime. I wish I knew how to report them to someone that could do something about it. If not they will just keep on doing the same thing. You see on the news all the time about lawsuits about stuff like this.

Ebay gives sellers the option to charge customers retail rates, or the discounted rate through Ebay, you pay the discounted rate when you purchase a shipping label through them, and could be the reason for the difference. I haven’t seen that much of a difference in anything I listed, but it was significant on some items. You need to select which method you want to use for your listings in your profile, it can have a big impact on the shipping costs displayed in your listing.

If/when I sell on the bay , I figure out shipping thru pirate ship and that's what I charge . How does the bay calculate their shipping ? Seems like a rip off to me after taking 15% of everything .

It would be easy for me to go into an (anti)eBay rant, but on the subject of shipping, yes, I have found in every instance eBay's so called discounted rate is significantly higher than what I pay as a walk-in off the street user at either UPS, USPS, or FedEx. Yesterday I shipped an item UPS ground with several thousand dollars of insured value for $95. eBay's UPS ground price$112 and it's not at all clear if it was insured at the auction closing price. It says I have "standard seller protections", but I couldn't find anywhere what that is. AI chat won't answer it, and their telephone help doesn't even know how eBay works.

I haven't sold on eBay for 3-4 years. IMO it has become a buyer's venue as far as rights and protections. This instance was a more peculiar item. On the bright side, this item sold for 2x what I would have accepted. But I don't hand the funds yet......another one of the things that has changed. It used to be you didn't ship until you had money in hand. Now eBay keeps your dough until buyer says ok.......it really opens sellers up to dishonest buyers that make false claims and causes you to give eBay an interest free loan for the duration. I said I wouldn't rant :)

Best,
Kelly

I suppose that depends where you are located and local taxation rates.

I sold a few items on ebay.
I hate shipping charges, as do many other buyers.
I would increase the price of the product to cover postage and offer free shipping .
The tactic is successful.
I generally don’t directly pay for shipping on ebay choosing free shipping whenever possible .
I have an Amazon warehouse pert near my backyard, they generally get my products to me within a day with free shipping .
