I decided to build the reversing gear mechanism outlined in a post here. the original poster obtained gears from Sid, however the specified (30 tooth 10mm bore, 1.5 module) gears will take 4 weeks to get. I would 3D print these, but I don’t think that PLA would last very long in this application (I may print them to simply let me do the build and wait for the SDI order to be filled). Any suggestions as to where to get these gears (that is not going to cost an arm and a leg for shipping). McMaster and any other places I can find searching are just ridiculous. I don’t want to change the specifications as that would require more work in laying out things for different sidings

Yeah. They are a 4 week delay on shipping. Tell me more about the electronic lead screw
All the gory details can be found in @greenail 's Electronic Lead Screw thread. It is basically what Clough42 did with a few modifications. Lathe Electronic Leadscrew Part 1: Proof of Concept - YouTube It has been a fairly popular modification.

The thread ranges are all the common sizes from 8 tpi to 80 tpi and .2mm to 5mm, right and left hand. Feed rates run from .001 to .040"/rev or.02 to 1.00mm left and right. There is also a spindle rpm readout. While it isn't possible to use user selected custom feeds or threads, they can be entered by modifying the firmware if need be.
