First tooling purchase for the Bridgeport - Advice Wanted

and is a much better choice for a hobbyist/beginner
Spot on. :encourage:

Shall we give the poor bloke bloke a bit of a breather, before we start sending him off to Haas.

Let's also not suggests he needs a Haimer coax indicator too!

Yeah, I think some people missed the fact that he wanted to reduce the list and cut out the fluff for his initial outlay.

And not being willing to watch a video from the grandfather of precision is a head scratcher for me personally.

Don Bailey knows more on the subject than any ten of us.

Yeah, I missed that comment about the video.

I actually watched that very Suburban Tools video about a month ago and found it really quite useful. It pretty much stopped me from buying an electronic edge finder in my tracks.

I've just stuck with my pretty sensibly priced Starrett fella (for which I now have an identical backup, due to a Black Friday deal on Amazon).

Don't know much about "Surburban Tools" but Suburban Auto Group is pretty cool. Suburban Auto Group Commercial

Until I watched that about a decade ago I would have thought using an edge finder in a drill chuck was heresy.

I was taught better, and for good reason, but I’ve pulled that one out with annoying coworkers in the past to get their tounges wagging.

It inevitably comes full circle and proving it out in front of the shop know it all really twists some peoples pants.

Nothing will break an overconfident guy quicker than a “hack” getting as good or better results in less time.

Please see my comparison of Edge Finders here:
I have to laugh about all this jibberish about edge finders . Any will get you within a half thou easily . You want better , tram the edge with an indicator . We're not making rocket parts here . If you were caught using an edge finder on our Deckels or P&Ws , you were walked out the door . As far as the Starrett center finding sets , they'll get you close enough although never perfect as it picks up only one edge ( leading ) of the hole OR the countersunk hole . In any die work , you need thread plugs and a .0001 Bestest or better .

So if I used my of my "pointers/cones" I wouldn't even be allowed in?
