hi guys, do you know if the er40 chuck has a standard thread for the holder that goes through the lathe spindle, i bought one off ebay and it wasnt in the box so i'm not for sure what size the thread is or does it even use a drawbar holder ty mac:biggrin:

ER40 Collets don't take a draw bar. I have a set for my mill and the holder uses a draw bar but not the collets. The collets are held in with the nut, How about a pictre of it so we can see how it works.

the chuck has a mt4 shank on it, you slide it into the spindle isnt there a draw bar that screws into the mt4 shank to hold the chuck shank so it dont spin inside the spindle:thinking:

let me refraise this i bought a collet chuck er40 with a mt4 shank in the shank there is a threaded hole, i think it is there so you can draw the chuck into the spindle tight so it will not turn inside the spindle, is this a standard threaded hole:thinking:

ha ha,
I believe it'll be (more than likely but not definitely) a 5/8-11 thread. You'll need to check yourself though, there are a few different threads used on MT4 tooling dependant on the machine.

If you have an industrial fastener supplier nearby, try to get some B-7 all thread rod.

It is 4140 HT and much more durable than the low carbon, common ATR.

McMaster probably has it if you are having to order in.

Just be careful if you have to weld the B-7. I prefer to double nut it tightly; then tack in place.
