Don't be this guy! (Me)

As I am always doing non magnetic things, this won't work for me, but I though about having a sterilized magnet nearby. Touch the particle with it, and remove. Now I'm basing this idea on just something metal getting onto your eye. I don't mean a spear like splinter that actually pieced the eye. I BELIEVE, most these things are just small pieces that get into the eye and stick to the surface. Rubbing your eye will scratch the scalera/cornea, a magnet would just pull it straight away.
Is this stupid? Hopefully I'll never have to do it as I wear a full face shield.

No, not stupid. Done it many times. You might want to avoid one of those super, rare-earth magnets that would rip it out if deeply embedded.

What is this pic?
It is a floor polisher stuck in an MRI by the magnetism generated.

Those MRI machines can be deadly when you get stupid with them. i've seen wheelchairs sucked into them firsthand and it gets mighty exciting.

When I was in EMS there was another crew that was transporting a nursing home patient to have an MRI at the hospital. For some reason when they went to get the patient out of the MRI to take them back to the nursing home they took the ambulance stretcher into the room while he magnet was energized. The cot itself is aluminum so not affected, but the 02 cylinder strapped to the cot was steel and it got sucked into the magnet dragging the rest of the cot in as well while dragging both EMT's who were fighting the magnet. The EMT's were injured but not seriously, but the patient was killed by the impact of the bottle/cot as it was sucked into the tunnel. A horrific thing for all involved.

Fun with magnets. (Feel free to fast forward to 5 min):

Maybe not the kind you were thinking of.

I've ALWAYS been asked about metal dust...in eyes and I wanna say lungs? They can manipulate the iron in your blood with those damn things...had it done on my intestines, felt like someone was kneading my insides.

That is why any ferrous metal in the eye will possibly blind you as the metal looks for a way to the magnet.

I personally don't think using a magnet to try to get SUPERFICIAL metal out of your eye is a stupid idea.
(unless is is aluminum. Duh)

Unfortunately the floor polisher thing is a seriously common problem. To wit:
