I have to renew my DL next year. This time in Paso Robles, CA. Last time was in Reedley, CA. Small friendly office. No matter who we started with all of us old farts were sent over to the far end of the counter for vision test and pictures. The vision chart was maybe 8' behind the counter instead of the usual 20' everywhere else in the building.. All of us passed with no problem.
When I moved to Paso Robles I wanted to get the address on my DL changed to my new address. No appointment. Got there just after they opened. The lady at the door asked what I needed to do. Then told me what form to fill out and when I had it filled out to come back to get a number. I waited about an hour or so before being called. Then had to fill out a different form. And waited again for awhile. Not too long. Probably took around two hours. When I left the line was out the door and around the building. Would not let people in until there was a vacant chair to sit in.
Hopefully I will get a renewal by mail next year. No need to go to an office. I understand that you can get two renewals by mail if you have a clean driving record before you have to go into an office.
I am always extremely polite when dealing with the DMV. Please, thank you and your welcome often work wonders.
