hi guys, could use some help, ive been reloading brass for 15 yrs and bought all my stuff premade caseings bullets etc, never used gas checks on my bullets , now i am wanting to cast my own bullets and they are calling for gas checks, i hopeing the bullets that i was useing was install at factory cause i didnt put any on, now the next question is how do i install these on my cast bullets after they are made ty much mac:))

They are put on with the lubrisizer when lubing and sizing the bullets. Some moulds are made for gas checks and some are not. The checks protect the base of the bullet against higher pressures and heat

y bobby for the info i use rcbs dies the 2 die set do i need to get a die by its self ty mac:))

Depending on the load, you may not require the gas checks. I know that Lee and Lyman, I have a Lyman lubesizer, make what you need. Also I would look for Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. It is a great source of info etc. If you use soft wax, you will not need a heated lube sizer.

Mac,
I ,ay be way wrong but the gas check ring is molded into the bullet. So say a sierra bullet or a boat tail might not have it but a RCBS might. SOme of the fellows in the know will hopefully set me straight, but some .22 bullest are visibly different and you can see the ring raised up just abve the brass case. FMJ bullets I would think would not have them ever. ANybody know for sure?
