Bridgeport Barn Find- Is it worth it?

Gotta watch out for those buyers fees Neil . That high bid of $3.00 on that Bridgeport would take it up to $3.45 ! :big grin: And then add tax !

We always hear the machine is the cheap part. With that in mind, here they have 2 mills. What do they have in tooling and other pieces? A vise is a fairly easy clean up for example.

Ask some more questions about what all is available for sale.

With auctioneer fee's near 30 % do be careful and then there is the old "one of the sanctioned riggers" will have to move anything you can't carry out the door.

I have never seen a 30% buyers fee, at least not around here. All of the auction houses I deal with are 15% plus tax.

We have an online guy who charges 18 % on credit card purchases, I think he also charges the seller 10% or so.

Hard pass. Really restoring that machine is going to take tools you don't have (i.e. you're going to have to farm work out) and even the stuff you do will cost you money. It's also going to take a huge number of hours. I think in the end you'll have paid the same or more for a machine that was once a rust bucket versus having a decent machine, soon, that has been relatively well-treated. The only value in this machine is if you had a burning desire to see if you could resurrect it and would enjoy the work.
