Air Compressor recommendation

The original head was a single piston and blew up (I rode it hard, must've done 5 full-strip automotive body projects with it), so that head is a HF 2-piston single-stage. Thumpy, out of balance, and the Leeson motor couldn't stay cool even though I geared it right according to the spec sheet for the Chinese compressor head. Goofy v-twin jitterbug POS with reed valves that clapped at 90 decibels, I hated that thing so bad I gave it away for free just to see it hauled off!
I have an old 1985ish Kaeser with a 2 Gallon Receiver, oiless, 7.5HP 3ph, 30CFM at 125 PSI... I am getting ready to gut the old electrical box in it and replace it with a VFD.

Specs are deceiving then: Decibel Rating 83 dBA

17.9 CFM @ 100 psi and 17 CFM @ 175 psi - that is nice!! And an 80 gal tank... nice!
Yeah it seems to be mainly the air intake, so I forgot to mention I added a hose to a Hush Thrush turbo muffler and that quieted down the overall intake DB level but have not actually measured it. My Older 5 HP Ingersoll Rand, the pump runs at a much higher RPM and I do think the lower Pump speed is somewhat less irritating.

didn't realize how many guys are irritated with their compressors until this thread.
Irritated? More like raving and leaping. Nothing like nursing along a POS compressor that makes too much racket for way too long and replacing one failed component at a time to motivate a shop dweller to part with a paycheck or two with one click. Cry once, then feel smug about your choice for years to come.

I must say I'm glad I bought mine around 2006 for somewhere around 4 or 5 hundred. It looks like now they are pretty much generic now. Glad I sprang for it then. Anyway Merry Christmas.

Well I would really like to mount the compressors in their own separate space. That way I can listen to the Vintage Marantz, Crown and Soundcraftsman powered garage stereo / subs while working without really hearing the the Compressors when they run. Music is a great motivator for me when in the garage/shop.

I Do like the new 2 stage and added CFM

Merry Christmas Everyone

Irritated was probably a poor choice of word :)

An isolation room is a welcome addition to a compressor. But make sure you have a way to keep the room form over heating. Thermostatically controlled! Maybe a way to vent the heat into your shop space in the winter and outside in the summer.
