Air Compressor recommendation

My Quincy QT series is a few years old now, and I smile every time I hear it kick on, because at 65 decibels it sounds like a refrigerator coming on compared to my old one. The 5 hp model puts out 19 cfm at 150 psi, which is enough to spoil a man.
That's a heck of a machine - I have 3 linked in series and am lucky to get 20cfm at 90psi

I would get at least 15 SCFM. running a sander is almost as bad as sand blasting. if you don't want the machine to run constantly while sanding. get a 2 stage with as much CFM as you can afford, you won't regret it. buy once cry once. sometimes I wish I had more.

Here's mine. Just made it through another project. I keep waiting for a rod to come through the case. It's LOUD! God bless my neighbors, because they don't seem to care. I think the noise reflects forward, away from their house, so that helps. Anyway, you guys are making me jealous!

Think mine is similar, twin stage, 5HP, 60 gallon. It's a nice machine. I cried once on this purchase, would do it again if I needed to. Had smaller, far noisier compressors, this one is a gem.

love mine. bought it in 2011 or 2012 I think.

I bought a Makita Quiet Series 1-1/2 HP 3 Gallon compressor two years ago. Claims to be 60 db. It's pretty quiet. 1750 RPM.

I wasn't sure I could use it for air on my CNC mill, but it works quite well and it's far less noisy than the cutting of metal. I've had it supplying air for cuts that ran more than an hour and it seems fine with that. Set to 40 or 50 PSI of continuous air, the compresser runs at about a 50% duty cycle.

It's small enough (44 lbs) that I can moved it around.
