Last week? Even if I had the skills to achieve something like that, I can't imagine how many weeks it would take me. I guessing more than a week just for the stain/finish.
Nice piece.
We have a supplier close to me called "Exotic Woods" in Burlington Ont.
I bought a few nice pieces of ash , maple , African something or other.. (its a black hard wood with a nice burl in it).
I used it for mallets hammer handles, knife and sword handles.
I made these a couple of months ago ..
I think they turned out to nice to use , So they stay in my display cabinet..
I got a deal on 3 metal detectors for the kids for Christmas. Not wanting to be left out, of course I got a fancy Garrett AT Gold for myself. I started looking around for accessories and bought a few things. A nice digging pick was the only thing I just couldn't settle on. The only one that even turned my eye was over $100. I said to heck with it and made my own. Its sitting just under 3 pounds now....will be right on 3 lbs once I add the rare earth magnets. I'm a fairly big guy, so carrying and using this won't be a problem. I like to build things that stand the test of time. Also, with that paint job, even a blind guy could find it if it got dropped.
Redneck heat treating. LOL.
After the fire and quenching in water.
And the finished product with it's bumble bee "come and find me blind guy" paint job and hand grip.
When you're digging iron stuff, you scrap and poke around, loosening soil. Then use the magnet to pull out the object. It saves a lot of time over sifting through every last little bit of dirt looking for your target.
