The gear box is painted and ready for gear assembly, now I need to make a 20 tooth lead screw gear what material do
I need for this gear. Anyone know what material the originals were made from.

Thanks for looking.

You can make a gear out of anything that you want or have available.
The question will be longevity.
Steel and cast iron are common materials
Bronze is also common
Brass wears quickly, but can be used.
Aluminum can be used, but generally wear quickly
Nylon and delrin are sometimes used.
I’ll mention 3d printer PLA plastic and metallic plastics too

Each material has its pros and cons.

I would consider delrin or nylon , if i were to go at it for a couple reasons , affordability, ease of machining, and low noise.
An unintended but favorable quality , in the case of operator error , damage to a nylon or delrin gear won’t be transmitted to the rest of the steel gear train .
