Youtube is painful these days.

I don't have any adblocking on iphone or pc and have found the number or lack of ads varies greatly.
It may have to do with the popularity of the content, but often I don't see any ads at all.
If I cast from pc to the tv, I'm suddenly inundated with commercials which is very annoying.

Google have to pay their bills (particularly their electric bill! o_O:grin:)

Have you seen microsofts latest solution to this issue ?

I'm trying to imagine the meeting about the new data center where some one came out out with "I think it might be cheaper to get our own nuclear plant"

My ad blockers are:

I will have to pick up more blockers. At first it started with skippable ads, but now most all are not skippable, and they are painfully long. And when they stack them .... :gangster:

I’m with @Larry$ , but running Safari. The progress bar replaced the countdown timer: when the yellow bar reaches the right side you can skip.

Some YT content has several ads, some have none: I think this is related to how the creator has their account set up (although I am a creator, I don’t have the traffic volume to get any payment, so don’t think there are any ads, but I haven’t tried accessing from a not logged in device).

It seems like most of the no-skip ads are “public service,” but even some of the political ads allowed skipping.

Some of the content providers that I enjoyed have started doing their own commercials in their videos.
When I encounter this I add them to my Blocked list and let them know in the comments.
Paying for Premium gets rid of the other ads.

It's because the things in the video are triggering the no add revenue auto block for the person making the videos , a seemingly random list of words can cause a persons videos to make zero money, the video will still have adverts play on it which makes it worse. The amount they pay has also fallen off considerably from a few years ago.

Ads wouldn't be so obnoxious if they were tailored to my buying habits. Seeing ads for MSC, Shars, LMS, etc. would be interesting and informative. However, advertisers are just interested in how many hits they get rather than the success of those hits so we keep seeing garbage ads.

The censorship on YT has gotten to the point where it damages legit content. Some creators have considerable staff to pay. I make sure I click the "Like" button for them.

I skip all this by being too lazy to bother with adblockers and too tired to care overmuch about privacy worries.

I just pay Google for Premium YouTube and have done. In addition to not having to put up with adverts, I also get the extra perks from the subscription.

Not saying that's the only, or even most optimal solution but eh, it works for me. ;)

I know we got used to all these services being free back in the day, but Google have to pay their bills (particularly their electric bill! o_O:grin:) somehow. Eh, that's capitalism for you. ;)
Agreed. As much as I watch YT, and as much as I get from doing so, it’s worth it. And it feeds the pot that pays a little to the guys I subscribe to.

I pay a lot more so others in the house can watch TV, and that is also buried in ads in addition to being utterly vacuous. YouTube has been a better investment for me, at least for now. I suppose that can change.

@woodchucker

To be fair, I run a series of YT adblockers and have no issues with YT either on firefox or Chrome though the extensions do differ a little, they ostensibly do the same thing. Yes I run "youtube" specific add-ons (extensions) alongside other extensions I do not care to list.

Here are some (not all) of the add-ons (extensions) I run and they help massively with YT adverts.

Ad Skip Master for Youtube
Hide YouTube Shorts
Improve YouTube
TubeBlock - Adblock for Youtube
Youtube-shorts block

AutoplayStopper
Yet another autoplay blocker
Switch to Brave browser and be done with all that.

I think I have 2 add ons, but one is simply to make YT show the like/dislike ratio and I haven’t seen an ad in years.
