I know what the pedal should be used for. Use it to tension a cable inside the post that couples the base to the vise, but leave the cable about 2" longer than it needs to be... when you use the vise, just step on the pedal, and the pedestal will snap to attention. When you're done, release the pedal, and the whole setup collapses to a nice low pile on the ground that you can still park your farm chariot over top of.
My Reed 3C vise arrived today via UPS. It came from a small town in Texas. The packing job was so good it took me over 1/2 hour to get it out of the box. It turned out to be even cleaner than I anticipated.
So I know have a complete set of Webber Gauge Blocks and a smaller set that has a Made In Germany Badge on it and the seller Gave Me the Surface Plate 18X12 Metroplate . I am going back later this week to look at so other tooling and a Surface Grinder and Hardinge Speed Lathe.

ooh, now that's what I call a vise! Could you do me a favour and measure those pipe jaw inserts when you have the time? I think I have a pair of inserts amongst some random stuff I got at auction. Couldn't figure out what they were for until I saw your pics
120 lbs. of Rock Island vise just came UPS today. Came from a welding shop and shows little use. Opens & closes & swivels easily. No play or slop in jaws. Used my car lift to put it on a cart until I can fabricate a stand.
