What Did You Buy Today?

So that 2”x10’ steel rod (2nd from right in the first pic) that Shiseiji suggested cutting down so I can stand it upright in my garage? It’s bloody STAINLESS! Discovered by trying to cut a couple of feet off it and the band dulling in less than a minute Fitted a 4tpi band and it’s slowly been chewing through it
According to the marketing emails I've been getting this week, it's not too late to put a chop saw on your Christmas list for this year! Act now and save!

It seems every time I come from the shop into the living area my wife makes some comment about how filthy I've gotten and makes reference to me working in a coal mine rather than a machine shop. She asks me if it's all that necessary to be so close to the work that I end up wearing whatever came off the mills or the lathe.

In an effort to minimize the amount of dirt and crud I bring into the living area I thought it might help if I stood a little farther back from the work piece than in the past. To help with my new "distancing" attempt I purchased a few tools to help out. Hopefully these will keep me far enough from the work piece to be able to walk into the living area a bit cleaner.

The longest one is 24" and the shortest is 10". The only downside is I'm near sighted. I don't know if I'll be able to see what I'm working on if I use the longest drill.

Long drill bits won’t help with being dirty. The answer is always no, make me a sandwich! The repercussions vary from relationship to relationship!

Mine really went after me over bringing in sharp chips stuck in my shoes, on days I work around the lathe or Mill.

Now I have to remove my shoes at the door if I machine anything.... What kind of madness is this? :)
