I finally decided to quit futzing around trying to figure out a drive system for my Rivett lathe, and ordered a 1hp Consew servo sewing machine motor.
I'm still going to have to figure something out, but the small size and variable speed should make that easier. I'm thinking I'll be able to mount the motor in an underdrive arrangement as the lathe would have had originally, instead of the rear mount that had been cobbled together by the prior owner and never intended to be the permanent solution.
