Uses for a die filer - please post photos of your die filer in use

Reading this again and looking at my machine, I get it now... there is no need for an optional accessory... And any file with a 1/4" shank will work.

Let me get one of the ones I bought and give it a try.
you want to mount it so that it cuts on the down stroke. So many hand files don't work that way. But you can grind them to fit into the holder so you can mount them upside down... and cut off the shank since it's weight will wave like a flag unnecessarily.

Not an expert on this, but don't you want a file that will dig on the downstroke? If so, then using a regular file's shank will not do that...

All good there. All the ones that I bought, cut on the downward movement and are 1/4” shank.

 
In the sprit of not really answering your question, I'll post pictures of the Butterfly Die Filer, made by Harvey manufacturing, I rebuilt. I seldom use it as for outside smoothing/removing the belt sanders are faster and simpler to setup. Irregular inside features is a different story. This one had a stripped Main Screw on the file vice that required machining a new one. Other than that and the crank parts, not a lot to wear out.

I ended up getting a Delta Rockwell 1x42 belt sander that can take belts as small as 1/4”. And can work on internal parts. Also backplates can be made that can handle curves.
Watching the die filer work is really engrossing. How it works is really beautiful. But it is slow and inefficient.
