Tool and cutter grinder build

Ha! Brilliant! I had no idea what they were at first. Any chance they are from Charlotte Pipe?

Ha! Right down the street. They cast iron here two days a week. I smell it on my commute.
Those guards would really lend themselves to being cast in aluminum but yours look great with that finish!

I didn't know what I was going to find when I went shopping, and these PVC fittings were perfect. They would be nice made of metal, but I have never seen any. The PVC is 1/4" thick and very sturdy. You have to really beat them with a hammer to do any damage, so I figure they will work good here. and they look nice once they get the finish. I have to bake the paint to get it to wrinkle nice and cure hard. I worried about putting my new guards in the oven, but they held up at 200 degrees long enough to wrinkle the paint. ( I took them out as soon as possible).
 
Yea...that wrinkle paint looks good but I'm fairly certain I would get shot with my own .45 if I tried to put any of that in the Boss' gourmet convection oven. ;)

I just got caught up on your build and noticed several things that drew a question and well here we go.

1 Using the motor you used, I can not understand how ant one could have wrote anything but perfect fix and no one could beat the cost.
2 Grinding flutes on a end mill should be possible, never done that but what I've read it should be possible and I can not wait to finish the Quorn to find out for myself.
3 With your spindle-you will know if you have too much preload on the bearings- monitor the temp on both sides of the spindle. They should not be very much over warm. If they do shut it down and loosen them. If they get very hot throw them away.
4 Love the guards that is one of your greatest fix in the whole job.

Mark you are doing a great job and moving at a good pace. I'm love-in it. Just wish it was mine Quorn moving along that fast. The other thing that made my marbles rattle was the finish on some of the machines that look too much like museum pieces. I plan on making mine look top shelf, but I will be using mine. That is if I get it finished before I'm finished, but who is counting the days.

I ordered a round urethane belt today for the grinder. As soon as it gets here, I will make the motor pulley and fire this thing up and see how it runs. It is essentially done but there are still a few details to be finished. I will keep posting the details here and post how to use the thing. I plan to make a user manual for it. ( I don't want some whack job throwing it away after I am dead and gone because no one knows what it is).
 
Put me down for a copy of the user manual too. :)
