Brian you have done well to keep Dave happy keep up the good work
how about a couple of more photos you know Dave loves photos
and so do I All the best for Xmas regards Bill

Brian,
Thank you for both documents. I am planning to build a taper attachment soon, and was puzzeled at some of the attchments that seem overly complex.
I had not dreamed that a square tube might be straight enough for the bar. Many use rounds and dovetail slides that can cause vertical alignment issues.
I really like your no nonsence approach and am off to check some tubing for straightness. Thank you.

Hi Brian, that's a nice taper attachment, simple and effective!

OK, mine's the lathe maker's own, so you'd expect some bells and whistles, but one thing I like is that it has a micrometer adjuster that moves the free end of the bar, and once it's adjusted to parallel it can be calibrated and then used without checking with the dial gauge - you might consider a similar adjuster, mounted on the plate with the scale as a Future Improvement? If the adjuster moved the bar (say) 12" from the pivot, you'd be able to calibrate it directly with a mic' head or a fine (20tpi?) threaded adjuster - 20tpi would give you .100" taper per foot per revolution, which would be convenient :)

The *really* slick ones I've seen have a gear quadrant on the end of the bar (the gear "centre" being the pivot point), and push a rack back + forth with the adjuster, but that may be overkill for a home-brew adaptor :D

Great job. I like your attachment need to build me one at some point. They make life so much easier. Thanks for posting this.
