Tap organization

Another idea for tap and drill organization is tubes originally designed for coin storage. They come in sizes for pennies, dimes, nickels, quarters, half dollars, and silver dollars. I use them for small drills and taps. like those about #40 or smaller. They make the small drills and taps easier to find and prevent damage.

Here's an example:

I moved my taps directly over my drill indexes. It feels right. The drawers to the left hold endmills, inserts, larger taps, and other related stuff.

Slightly off topic. I ordered a few packs of drills last week. One of my preferred brands over the years has been Precision. Mainly because they were made in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The ones I just ordered were made in Brazil. It seems like more and more companies are making their products off shore.

I've never seen a Precision brand drill bit that wasn't made in Brazil. They have all been quality.

I’m probably dating myself, but in the 1980’s when we would go to Rhinelander I would stop at the Triumph factory and purchase as many drills as I could afford. Eventually Triumph was bought out by Minnesota Twist Drill.

The Triumph location in Rhinelander was purchased by Precision in 1997. It sounds like that facility is now shut down and most of the production is done in Brazil.

Just when I opened my mouth about Precision moving their manufacturing off shore another pack of drills showed up. These are #3 taper length. Low and behold the package says “Made In USA”. I have no way of knowing if they’re old or current stock

I've got a few Triumph drill bits. Good to know where they come from.
