I decided that having separate parting tool holders for HSS and carbide would be very convenient for my CXA tool post. Didn't want to spend much for a "convenience" tool so started looking on fleabay. Seems like new were going for around $125 and used in decent shape were going for $85 to $100. Found this crapper for $39 delivered.

Well, after a few days, I thought that the blade was scrap, but the holder might clean up OK as I I didnt see any metal missing and I doubt one could be bent. Could I live with a small tapped hole behind the blade? You cant see the hole with a blade installed. Went ahead and thought it would be worth a shot so I bought it. When it showed up, the tightening screw and the "other" screw were both glued in place. Cant imagine what this tool was grooving or parting that needed that type of rigidity. I figured that the only screw I cared about was the tightening screw, if the other broke I would dremel it off flush and be done with it. Threw it in the parts washer and let it sit for 3 days. When I pulled it out of the washer I was able to loosen both screws. It actually cleaned up pretty well all things considered. I was going to make some adjusting hardware but found Aloris hardware on Amazon of all places for $15. So for $54 and 15 minutes, I ended up with this:
IMG_8461.jpgI'm even going to save the brazed carbide parting tool, I think is still has a few surface feet left in it even tho I will need to use the special screw to hold it. I guess a blind cow does find an oat every now and then................
