in my past life i have painted many large vehicles - almost all high metallics and quite a number in silver - in florida - and over 20 years later they are still good
i used ppg dbc and (at that time) 2020 clear. dp40 or dp50 as an initial primer and then as a seal coat. follow the directions exactly
For a period of time, I had full access to a professional paint shop and their supplies, working after hours. There was a full PPG Deltron mixing station, and a variety of clears. My favorite clear was 2001/2002. As I recall, it was higher solids than 2020, which also is very good. For base, there was two types back then: one was a catalyzed base, and the other was not. DBU and DBC? Something like that. Going forward, all the base coats I've used were not catalyzed.
I used House of Kolor paint for my last motorcycle. It's okay. Not in the same league as the Deltron stuff, but good enough for me.
The Nason paint I was raving about is denoted Fulthane single stage. I last used it about 10 years ago, which is a long time in the world of paint, but it's worth checking out. Single stage (no clear needed), super durable, and sprays out super well. It's one of the cheaper paints, too, because it's single stage.
