Well, 10mm is .394" and 3/8" is only .375, and you certainly can buy grade 8 metric bolts, so I'd say you should be o.k.

you make a very good point. my other issue was looking at it as though the bolts were the sole support when in fact they are in shear with the registering shoulder caring a lions share of the load. Some times I get some involved in looking at the trees that I forget about the forest.
