POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

Yeah, I think forklift mechanics must have very small hands. He has a skid steer but wanted something with more lift capacity. This one turned out to be too big, he’s after a 6k pneumatic tired one once he gets this one sold
too big in what way? you can never have too much lifting power? Is the machine footprint too big?

This morning I finished up on the hydraulic tank and checked out my welding for air leaks.
The pressure test revealed several small leaks so a little grinding and welding was in order.
Here's a photo of the finished tank.

I'm not sure why this post showed up in the lathe chuck page... If someone can move it to "What did you do in your shop today?" would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yesterday I took apart most of an Albrecht keyless chuck I got in a deal. I got it to where I could not figure out how to get the bolt head that lifts the jaws out from the jaw guide cage. So in disgust I made it into an ashtray. Overnight, it occurred to me how it must work, and today I finished the project, and made an ashtray into a really nice Albrecht chuck. Wow, is it smooth!
OK! So HOW DID YOU DO IT????

This is a good video except he lubes the spindle threads and Albrecht says DON'T lube the spindle threads.
Other videos exist also.

Cross and compound slides are back together and in place.
Have longer set screws on order for the compound slide gibb.
Just about ready to power things up and do a dry run to verify all the gears amd levers function as they should.

Made an Evaporust parts tank for long/narrow items. Home Depot has these 24 inch x 4 inch ABS pipes precut. Added an end cap and some ABS cement. About as inexpensive as I could think of for long parts like these. I'm using that stainless TIG wire to hold the part in the center off the pipe wall.

Trivia: I'm now up to 8 gallons of Evaporust, after scoffing at buying a 5 gallon pail. lol

I see that falling over and you going for another 8 gals. Put some legs or stabilizer on that tube. Or fashion something that goes between the yellow legs to keep the ABS from falling over. Do it because I don't want to hear you cursing mad from here. :grin big:

Yes, it’s too big physically. He can’t fit anything else (including his skid steer) in the fabrication part of his shop, hence the push to get it fixed and on its way. He can’t see any future need for lifting 10,000lbs, but fairly frequently does need to lift more than the 2,000lbs his skid steer can handle
