POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

BBR: Boo Boo Recovery.

I am attempting to make a vise caddy for my mill. After making all the arms with nice 3/8" through holes, I settled on this piece of stock for the part that clamps in the vise. There wasn't room under the lip for a nut or bolt head so my intention was to drill and tap, then lock-tite in a stud. Well, brain farts happen and I drilled a 3/8" through hole just like the other parts I had just finished!
Grrr....

Dropped a counter sink in the bottom, turned up a press fit stud and decked off the excess material. If I hadn't chamfered the hole it would be darned near invisible.

Oh well...

Got part of the wall stained today and then went down to my Aunts and Uncles house to clear thigs out . Got some cool old stuff . :encourage:

Just a few items from the ride today .
The wife said NO ! Couple of expensive old beer cans . A few Man Cave items from my Uncle's bar . Lots more to move up . My daughter will be getting the house full of furniture . My wife likes the antiques . I like the tools and junk that most people would throw away .

So included in my junk piles is a beer can collection I started in 74 . They are buried up in the garage eves . I've investigated these cans and have only seen 1 over the years . They were a limited run for the attendees of the National Convention back in 63 . My Uncle was a tool and die machinist at Crown , Cork and Seal who made these special cans . I can only find one other anywhere , and these 3 are in alot better shape than this one listed . :encourage:

I nearly bought this:

(note the all-important powered vertical head as opposed to the little stub vertical head that normally comes with these)

for £650 off a seller (within one and a half hours drive from me, as well) on lathes.co.uk...

...but it turns out that Tony, whilst a gem at providing a vital information resource on machine tools, is no super organised updater of the status of For Sale items on his classifieds section.

It had been sold about a month previous. :frown:.

Ah well, something like it will turn up sooner or later I guess. Hopefully when my finances are more sturdy.

Had a nice chat with the previous owner though. :)
That's a shame. Quite a slick looking machine!

Very pretty looking machine.
I don't see a quill handle. Is the vertical spindle not in a moveable quill? Z axis height adjustment only by raising/lowering the table?
It's a fixed quill on the Bridgeport C Head. If one comes available, a nice upgrade might be to put an M Head to get a movable quill, but I'm not sure how compatible that would be with the overarm adapter and I wouldn't bother unless it was a deal.

Making progress on the Y axis DRO scale mount, just need to complete the read head bracket.IMG_8269.jpeg
While not exactly in the shop, made a quick trip down to the Columbia to see the USS Montgomery heading to Astoria after the Portland rose festival.

kind of unusual to see her anchor dangling and not stored. Does she have amphibious landing craft in her rear.. that looks like a drop deck.
