POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

I welcome comments on location of the milling machine. I can't place it in the corner because the water filter is there. Can't place it next to the lathe because the Tesla batteries are there... I can swap location with the lathe... or move it along the line where is at...
If you want it next to the lathe, I'd just put it in from of the batteries with a chip guard over any vents. The lathe sticks out the back up top (above the batteries) so I can't go flush up against the wall.

Just be ready to move the mill if you ever need to call out Tesla for service.

Shop layout is kind of personal. I'd want some sort of table/workbench in the immediate area of the lathe and mills, even if it wasn't my main bench. Just like having someplace to set stuff close at hand while working on those machines.

If you're going for wall/barrier, I'd think about something that could be moved/removed relatively easily. Could be a lifesaver on 'new machine day'.
I agree. I will have a small workbench in there. I will also move the rack, that is all the way in the back, to the left, and move the toolbox that is next to it, to where the rack is. So it is close to the machines.

I like the idea of being able to remove the wall. Will build it like that. Thank you for the idea. :encourage:

Done for today… moved everything back inside and will continue tomorrow.

Doesn’t always pan out but today was one of those days when I was glad to have the proverbial “one behind the ear”.

Lathe motor finally gave up the ghost on the centrifugal starter, of course halfway through a part. A few years ago, I think during COVID, I had picked up a couple fractional horsepower motors from a guy on our used marketplace for precisely this reason. Undid a few bolts, yay the motor mount fits!, crimped on a couple new connectors, and back in business between coming home from work and dinner time.

Gotta love it when at least one plan pays off…
