Aluminum can be brazed. I do it quite a bit. I buy the hobart rods you can use propane or mapp. I use mapp for the bigger brazes, when I can't get the base metal hot enough using propane.

wow thats really smooth. do you remember what you used for rod - they tell me for stainless to def use 56 silver. Wondering if that holds true for mild steel as well
Two thoughts, Check with your local high school I.A. teacher to see if a night class might be available or they might give you some advice. Second, check with any place that rents tools for a gass welding rig. True Value Hardware stores... some have rental equipment, just a tought.
