My First Real Drill Press - 1940's Walker Turner 15" Bench DP

I am in the process of making a table/stand for it... but I might go a different route.

But then I found this locally... steel pipe/tube is the same at 2-3/4"... so I can just transfer over my parts and have a floor standing DP... yeah, it is not a round base like the original Walker-Turner... but what do you guys think? Some cleaning, removing the rust, paint to match the base and table... eh? eh? eh?

So much for a floor stand ... the seller decided to not sell it to me and re-list it again at a higher price. My bad as as I started chatting with him about what I was going to do... He probably realized he could make more money from it... I should have just bought it first and then talked Oh well, I will continue building the stand.

This arrived and now installed! Speed reduction pulley.

I need to go back and install the cap. The drill press was just a tad lower on the tube so I needed to raise it a bit so that the cap can clear the reducing pulley... but I could not wait to take the photos so here they are. In the photos I have already raised the drill press... just need to take it all apart to get the cap back in there. I will also need to make a bracket to relocate the lamp.

you don't need to take it apart to put the cap on, just remove the pulleys, slack off the top bolt that goes in the keyway and swing the reduction pulley to one side

Why did I not think about that!? Will do. Thank you.

Now, if only I could find a belt guard cover…
