Looking for tips on scissors knurling.

I prefer partial form knurls also but I also prefer singe diagonal partial form kurling even more for the asthetics. :)

But yet again, if you make the fully formed knurl fine enough, it makes for a great functional/grippy knurl that isn't rough on the hands. :big grin:

Thank you. Surprisingly not as much as I thought I would. Final diameter doesn't matter to me much so I would just turn down the mistake & try again. It did take me a bit to figure things out.

When I first got that knurler, I jumped straight to practicing on Ti 6-4. I fact I don't think I've ever knurled alumn with it, only Ti & SS303.... oh and delrin as an experiemet that came up during a discussion here. I probably suck at knurling alumn, haha.

Actually, the very first pic I posted, the top piece was a "mistake". Both pieces were done with tbe same exact pitch wheels but I didn't notice that top one had double tracked. I usually stop to check for that after engagement & before traversing the workpiece.

This is the only case of double tracking I have not scrap. I tried to duplicate it once intentionally & I "failed" more times than not double tracking (the proper tracking was the failure in that case, lol).

Anyways, I liked the way that "mistake" looked. I turned it into a ice pick & gave to Matt @ QMT. But don't tell him it was a mistake! Lol . Well it's not in my book, it's unique, one of a kind, & I will never make another one like it.

Darkzero remind me, are you the guy who started a Ti magnesium fire on your lathe years ago?

I've had pretty good luck with scissors knurling if my first pass is pretty aggressive. It saves doing the math part.
I've watched some beautiful knurls being made by cutting. Take a look @ this site

I had a scissor knurling tool in my shopping cart until my brother forced me to buy the Dorian cut knurling tool instead. Haven't tried it out yet but my brother has a lot of experience with both, he was adamant.
