My daughter grew up (from a baby) trashing the back seat of my 2003 Nissan Maxima with every imaginable gooey, goopy, sticky, snotty substance she could possibly come in contact with. She is now 17, just got her license and guess what her first car is!
I spent 3/4 of the day showing her and her friend how to wash, polish, wax and detail the outside and inside of the car. Nothing more rewarding than watching her pull out stuff from the far reaches of the back seat only to realize that is where that piece of cheese ended up and turn green when she realizes what it is! The dead mice in the trunk were by far the best find though. The carpet steamer did a good job on the upholstery and it is actually in quite good shape, not a single tear. They are still out their detailing, my back told me it was time for me to stop.
I put a few thousand dollars into the car to get it safe and reliable for her. New Michelin tires, I did the brakes myself with new rotors and pads, I had the leaking radiator replaced, a couple of bulbs, registration, insurance, several little this's and that's. The new windshield will be next week. I know the car well enough that I feel confident in it vs buying someone else's problem.
She is a great kid! She passed her drivers ed course on Thursday including the written and in car test so she can just go to the DMV and give them her certificate and get her license on Tuesday. She was driving us (her friend and I) around today and I was actually very impressed at how well she is driving and how careful she is being! It is both sad and exciting watching them grow up!
