Who was affected by Hurricane Beryl? I’m sure Verbotenwhisky was hit; just hope he doesn’t have any serious damage. I think the eye of the storm passed between him and me. I’ve been on my portable generator since Monday afternoon and hooked up a portable air conditioner yesterday that only cools the bedroom.
We only lost tree limbs and 30-40 feet of fence. Many neighbors were hit harder. My next door neighbor had two big trees fall and a third one is leaning and heaved up the ground on the side that faced the wind so it’s going to be removed. He was fortunate that the trees didn’t fall on anything. He has a beautiful covered patio and a pool and the trees fell between them.
Can’t work in the shop, no internet other than cell service which is slower than normal, no TV other than what I can get on a little indoor HD antenna that I hooked up today. BORED! At least we can get some news broadcasts now. My portable radio died recently and I haven’t picked up another one yet so the iHeart Radio app has helped get talk radio storm updates.
I was talking with my mother. She lived in houses that had no electricity or running water as a child in the 1930s. We agreed that a few hours without electricity is a form of time travel. You’re sent back to the late 1800s in a matter of hours. Her power was restored Wednesday so she was only without for about 54 hours. Everything in her fridge was still cold and the things in the freezer were still frozen solid.
I’ve rambled on enough. If you have been affected or know someone that has, please post the story.
