T32459 Knife-Making Belt Sander/Grinder

Shape and sharpen your custom knife blades with ease.

Recognized as one of the Best New Power Tools of 2024 on bobvila.com!

Do you have a 110-volt receptacle and want horizontal and vertical grinding? With this machine...
I purchased the platen, platen mounts, tool rest and arms from Contender. Have limited fabrication abilities in my little shop and the prefabricated parts were very reasonably priced so just went that route.
On the project list is a ceramic plate waiting to get glued onto the new platen.
Hello... Your Machine looks great, way more useful with that new table installed, it looks about 4 times the size of the OEM and a Huge difference I bet. and with that new Platen on you can use the sides of the belt now - Perfect.
Is there any stability issues from the extra added weight in the front ?
I looked on one of the Blade Sites where people were posting about it and on the contenders site and couldn't find a price.
I just got around to watching the Robinson Foundry video you posted earlier. I think my plans on building my own grinder will not be wasted. This grinder clearly has some room for improvement, but looks quite useful as is. Nice bit about that is it can help make parts for its own incremental upgrades.
I will be able to use some of the materials I had collected to make parts for this one.
The plans for a 2x72" grinder I have are from a youtuber Jer Schmidt. I will need to adjust some dimensions since they are for a 2x72" not a 2x42", but I think they will still be quite useful for making improvements to this Grizzly grinder.
Hey @Aaron_W
lol I watched the first episode in the play list you linked... If your making that please start a thread for it - I'll be watching your thread religiously... on the other hand ill be interested to see what changes you will make to your new sander.
The Robinson Foundry video guy make other cool foundry type videos, if your ever bored watch the Axe making one.

The 2x72 really is bigger than I need or have space for so I was already contemplating scaling it down. This Grizzly grinder will just make the process easier since it seems to have good bones. I will probably make changes in baby steps but I can see that over time it will probably be like George Washington's axe. I've replaced the handle 4 times and I've put 2 new heads on it, but it is the axe GW used to chop down the cherry tree...
I will certainly post any changes I make over time.
Well it turned up today in a much smaller box than I expected. Grizzly would do well to emphasize the size of this grinder. Now I know once set up it will be larger, but the box is not much larger than an 8" bench grinder would come in.
On the size issue, I've been watching various review, testing, improvement videos on this grinder and took this screen shot of the Grizzly 2x42 next to a 2x72 showing just how much smaller this machine is.
This particular youtuber was not impressed, but then again he has a nice 2x72 and apparently Grizzly did not give him a hard time returning the grinder as he mentioned that in the pros column.
The video the screen shot came from. He is pretty down on the machine, although he does make an effort to show both the good and bad. Also sounds like he may have gotten a machine with a bad ground, something he mentions at the end of the video.
It is a good video that certainly doesn't sugar coat the grinders out of the box weaknesses.
